"Unveiling a New Pathway in Parkinson´s Disease: The Role of RNA Processing Bodies"

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder, with its hallmark being the aggregation of alpha-synuclein (aS) into Lewy Bodies. While much attention has been given to aS-membrane interactions in disease etiology and progression, our research uncovers a novel role of cytosolic aS in regulating Processing Bodies (P-bodies) - ancient RNA-protein complexes essential for mRNA metabolism.

In this seminar, I would like to present our work how mRNA regulation is disrupted in PD, the implications of our findings, and the future direction of our lab’s work in understanding Parkinson’s disease mechanisms.
