"The long and winding road of cardiac regeneration"
One of the central problems in cardiology is the lack of cardiomyocyte renewal, i.e. any loss is essentially irreversible and, if reaching a certain degree, leads to heart failure, one of the most common disease entities in internal medicine. The lecture will provide an overview of the history of attempts to solve this dilemma and recent perspectives of heart repair with pluripotent stem cellderived cardiomyocytes. This approach has recently entered first clinical trials, but is still at a very early stage. Possibilities to improve it will be discussed.
