"Targeting the BH4 pathway for pain relief"
Tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) is a metabolite cofactor for aromatic amino acid hydroxylases and nitric oxide synthases and therefore important in the synthesis of neurotransmitters (such as dopamine and serotonin) and nitric oxide. We and others have uncovered a role for BH4 in pain processing and in this talk will describe our newest research to understand how BH4 contributes to different types of pain and our attempts to target the pathway to offer safe and effective pain relief.
